With regards to the Warminster game Andy, I believe the Veterans are playing first at 2pm and then the current teams are playing at 4pm.

BERT BACK MEMORIAL CUP and MIKE TAYLOR TROPHY Saturday 26 July 2008
ONE WIN APIECE FOR LOCAL RIVALS ON MEMORIAL AFTERNOON
Westbury United 3-2 Warminster Town
Westbury United won this years Bert Back Memorial match by beating their local rivals, Warminster Town, 3-2 in an exciting match on a sweltering afternoon at Meadow Lane. Warminster, having already played two friendly matches, looked sharper early on with Tom Welch firing over and home keeper, Nick Evans, making fine saves from Mike Reaney and Matt Guy. Westbury found their stride after the quarter of an hour mark and, with midfielder Matty Smith in excellent form, took a two goal lead. A Smith corner was headed goalwards by Ross Parker but the ball was cleared off the line for another corner. This time the ball was only half cleared and Wayne Wheeler latched onto it before hitting a 25 yard drive that beat former United keeper Jamie McGuckian. Wheeler scored again soon after when a great ball over the top by Smith saw Wheeler get in behind the visiting defence before hitting a lob over McGuckian and into the net. Warminster pressed forward late in the half and Evans did well to turn a Welch 20 yarder round his left hand post : Matt Guy took the resulting corner and Jason Guy arrived to finish at the back post to make it 2-1. It became 2-2 straight after the break when Lee Morgan could only slice an attempted clearance from a Matt Guy cross into his own net. Morgan almost made immediate amends when his header made McGuckian save, while at the other end Mark Breffit ran onto a loose ball and hit an angled effort over the crossbar. The winning goal came on 73 when substitutes Pete Ayton and Nick Ridout combined at a set piece with Ridout hitting a left footed shot into McGuckian's bottom right hand corner. Warminster almost forced a penalty shoot out when Shaun Snook was first to the ball in Westbury's 18 yard box but he could only find the side netting. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Westbury United Veterans 1-2 Warminster Town Veterans
A large amount of credit to both teams of veterans for playing a well spirited 35 minute each way match in the hottest part of the day. Westbury took the lead on 24 when Andy Goodenough found himself one on one with keeper, Paul Colbourne, and finished comfortably. The score stayed at 1-0 until the 61st minute when Andrew McFerrin equalised with a fine near post finish. Warminster took the lead within a minute when legendary local goalscorer Gary Lewis received the ball from Paul Newman before scoring with ease to claim the Mike Taylor Trophy.

PRE-SEASON FRIENDLY Friday 1 August 2008
EVANS' ERROR BOOST YEOVIL YOUNGSTERS Westbury United 0-1 Yeovil Town
A crowd in excess of 200 saw a young Yeovil Town team defeat their hosts with a goal midway through the second half. On a bright, sunny evening the pitch looked in excellent condition following heavy rain earlier in the day. Prior to the match Westbury were presented with their new kit by Ben Tupman of Westbury Packaging. Westbury were the better team in the first half and Yeovil goalkeeper Lloyd Irish made a fine early save from Wayne Wheeler. Westbury's leading scorer from last season had another good chance but a poor first touch was his undoing after he was set up by Nick Ridout. The visitor's only opening of the half came on 27 when Josh Robinson turned skilfully in the six yard box but his effort hit the side netting. Westbury keeper Tom Drewitt gave an assured performance without having a save to make. Irish made a great save just before half time : Luke Smith's cross to the back post was met by Mark Young's bullet header and Irish turned the ball away when a goal looked likely. A half time substitution saw Nick Evans replace Drewitt and after a slow start it was Evans who erred with a miskick on 67 to gift Robinson an open goal which he duly accepted to score the only goal of the game. Evans did well soon after with a low save after Hary Nudwell hit a curling free kick and his opposite number Irish saved from a Wheeler 20 yarder as Westbury pushed for an equaliser.

Not the best start to the season .... TOOLSTATION LEAGUE DIVISION ONE Saturday 9 August 2008OWN GOAL SETS CLEVEDON ON WAY TO CRUSHING WIN Westbury United 0-4 Clevedon United An own goal by Ross Parker on the stroke of half time set Clevedon United on their way to a crushing victory on a wet afternoon at Meadow Lane. Westbury were by far the better team for much of the first half and visiting keeper Mark Selway made excellent saves from Nathan Hallett, Wayne Wheeler and Mark Young : the latter chance coming at the end of a fast passing move involving Nick Ridout, Bobby Mitchell and Matty Smith. The hosts also went close with off target efforts by Wheeler - he somehow lofted the second of two chances over the bar from just six yards! Ridout also tried a curler that drifted just past the post after good work by Luke Smith and Wheeler. Clevedon were restricted to only a few openings with Adrian Price hitting a 25 yarder just wide and Jon Gwyther missing when well placed. The own goal came two minutes into injury time : Mark Brown sent in a hopeful cross from the right wing and Parker, in trying to clear the ball from danger, headed it into his own net off the underside of the crossbar! Clevedon doubled their lead straight after the break when the impressive Ryan King went on a skilful run and crossed to Ben Cook who finished with ease. Westbury were all over the place for ten minutes and it took two great saves by Nick Evans to firstly deny Cook another goal and then to tip a Gwyther header over the bar. Selway starred on the hour to keep his side's two goal lead intact when Ridout turned and hit a lot shot, Clevedon counter attacked and Cook combined with Gwyther whose header this time found the back of the net to score the third. Evans denied King when he got into the box but the star player soon set up the final goal when his low ball was met by the unmarked Joe Wheadon six minutes from the end. *STAR MAN : Ryan King (Clevedon United) TEAM : Nick Evans, Pete Ayton, Luke Smith, Bobby Mitchell, Ross Parker, Lee Morgan, Mark Young, Matty Smith, Nick Ridout, Wayne Wheeler, Nathan Hallett SUBS - Matt Mead, Tarick Yachou (used) Ashley Groves (unused) Forthcoming FixturesTues 12 Aug, Gillingham Town, HOME, League, 7.45pm Sat 16 Aug, Hamble ASSC, HOME, FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round, 3pm Tues 19 Aug, Shepton Mallet, Away, 7.30pm Sat 23 Aug, Larkhall Athletic, HOME, League, 3pm Bank Holiday Mon 25 Aug, Keynsham Town, Away, 3pm Sat 30 Aug = Possible FA Cup

TOOLSTATION LEAGUE DIVISION ONE Tuesday 12 August 2008
MATTY SMITH HITS TWO : FIRST POINT OF THE SEASON FOR WESTBURY Westbury United 2-2 Gillingham Town
Westbury picked up their first point of the season at home to newly promoted Gillingham Town, last season's Dorset Premier League champions, however it should have been a victory for the home side as they played against ten men from just before half time, let a lead slip twice and had a host of chances too! There was water on the pitch after earlier storms and that made for slippery conditions which both sides dealt with confidently to produce an action packed match. Gillingham were always a threat, with midfielder Steve Devlin pulling the strings, while for Westbury Matty Smith found some great form and Tom Staddon returned to influence attacking play. Visiting forward Phil Ormrod waltzed through Westbury's static defence in just the first minute but wasted a chance by firing over from ten yards. At the other end a cross by Mark Young seemed destined for Nick Ridout's head only for Adam Fricker to nip in and clear the danger. Chances were traded at both ends with Lee Morgan heading over from a Staddon cross, before Westbury's debutant keeper Tom Drewitt denied Devlin and Ormrod with a good double save. A fizzing cross by Luke Smith set up Wayne Wheeler and he was denied by a top drawer save by Alan Clements, at the other end Nick Compton's 35 yarder flew wide before he then wasted a close range chance. Westbury took the lead with a great move on 35 : Wheeler and Ridout combined to release Matty Smith into the box and, one on one with the advancing Clements, he took the chance cooly. The lead lasted just four minutes though as a corner from the ever dangerous Devlin wasn't cleared and Dan Rodgers netted at the second attempt. It was Rodgers who saw red just before the break for an off the ball incident with Wheeler that was spotted by an assistant and, after consultation between he and the referee, they decided to send Gillingham's captain off. There was no less action in the second half : Clements turned away a Ridout curler before another excellently worked goal restored Westbury's lead : Staddon broke down the right and sent in a pacy cross that was met with a powerful finish by Matty Smith. Again the lead was shortlived with Gillingham awarded a penalty just after the hour : Devlin sent in a free kick that was headed against the bar by Ormrod, however the referee adjudged he had been pushed by a defender and gave the spot kick. Devlin stepped up to make it 2-2. More chances followed at both ends with Gillingham's ten men intent to snatch victory while Westbury really should have done : Nathan Hallett fired across the face of goal, Staddon brought two saves out of Clements and Morgan headed over an Ayton corner. Meanwhile Morgan cleared off the line when Nick Thomson looked to have scored and Ross Parker's excellently timed tackle denied Ben Thomson.
*STAR MEN : Matty Smith & Tom Staddon (Westbury United) Steve Devlin & Alan Clements (Gillingham Town)
TEAM : Tom Drewitt, Pete Ayton, Luke Smith, Tom Staddon, Ross Parker, Lee Morgan, Mark Young, Matty Smith, Nick Ridout, Wayne Wheeler, Nathan Hallett SUBS : Tarick Yachou, Bobby Mitchell (used) Matt Mead (unused)

FA CUP EXTRA PRELIMINARY ROUND Saturday 16 August 2008
BRILLIANT BEALE HELPS HAMBLE EARN REPLAY Westbury United 0-0 Hamble ASSC
Hamble goalkeeper Dean Beale pulled off a string of excellent saves to earn his side a replay (to be played onTues 19 Aug at Hamble at 7.45pm) for a place in the Preliminary Round. Westbury's Luke Smith had an excellent match too and it was he at the heart of most of Westbury's attacking moves. Westbury wore their new change strip of Gold & Navy which was presented before the match by sponsor Phil Hooper of Fine Signs. Beale's first saves came on 8 minutes as he denied Nick Ridout in a one on one situation before diving to stop Wayne Wheeler's rebound with his legs. Soon after, Luke Smith's precise ball down the left found Wheeler and his cross to Staddon saw Gary Adams block Staddon's strike. Beale also saved a fierce 25 yard free kick from Ridout while further efforts from Matty Smith, Wheeler and Ridout were off target. Hamble had some pressure midway through the first half : Jimmy Bull missed the target with a free header from Adams' right wing cross and Kristian Pell tested Nick Evans from fully 35 yards. The second half was a duller affair with chances few and far between until the closing stages. Hamble went close as Richard Butt's set piece flew over and Bull's 30 yarder clipped the crossbar. With ten minutes remaining Mark McClements tried an overhead from 18 yards but found Evans in good form. Westbury finally found some form in the closing stages and it was Beale who denied them the £750 FA prize money with saves from Lee Morgan's, Wheeler and Nathan Hallett. Wheeler's close range header came after more great play from Luke Smith while Hallett's first time effort was set up by a bustling run from Matt Mead.
*STAR MEN : Luke Smith (Westbury United) & Dean Beale (Hamble ASSC) TEAM : Nick Evans, Pete Ayton, Luke Smith, Bobby Mitchell, Ross Parker, Lee Morgan, Tom Staddon, Matty Smith, Nick Ridout, Wayne Wheeler, Tarick Yachou SUBS : Nathan Hallett, Matt Mead (used) Mark Young, Matthew Friendship, Tom Drewitt (unused)
