The Local Police have just employed a Volunteer who will run the new NeighbourHood watch scheme, they are doing this in partnership with the Westbury Area Community Safety & in time will produce quarterly news letters, have monthly meeting (with coffee & biscuits..) & run a Neighbourhood Drop in a couple of times a week.

Nick Holt has asked me to include this new section on the Forum, to ask for any feedback or information relating to local crime or incidents near you.

Just out of interest for myself, I am wondering how many of you have a local Neighbour hood watch and if so are you aware of who it is etc.

As per the above note, we are attempting to create a more sustainable Neighbourhood Watch arrangement, at present we have a Volunteer named Roy who will be our Neighbourhood Watch Supremo, he lives in Westbury & is very active in a number of different areas, he will be working for a few hours a week abley supported by the NPT here at the Police Station, associated with this will be a local Speed-Watch, where certain Neighbourhood Watch members can put themselves forward to be trained to use the equipment & then carry out Speed Awareness sessions which we will support through Warnings or prosecutions.

Allied with the new NHW arragements we will be opening the doors of the Polce Station for Drop-In sessions where you can come in , ask questions, bring things to our attention etc.. these will be taken care of by our other volunteer, Jeremy (supported by Roy).

For anyone interested in NHW or just for good ideas to keep yourself safe, the following is a good link:

All the best

as you may remember nick last summer i did put my name forward for the haynes road , its a good system , but unfortunatley, i have heard nothing since, from this scheme, so im a little confused why this has come up again when the neighbourhood watch system does not take up those willing to take part, i had spoken last summer to many haynes road residents about joining this scheme sadly we all feel a little let down no communication was forth coming Undecided, perhaps you may be able to get on to the neighbourhood watch scheme and ask them why

Mike,

You're taking this very personally, its not that you're not wanted or that you efforts aren't appreciated; a fully functioning NHW scheme hasn't really worked very well for long time, there are those who are very active & work autonomously & then there are those like you who feel they need more support & this hasn't been there (so you are not alone in your feelings). I'm working hard to bring things back on track, if you still feel that you wish to take responsibility for the Haynes Road area, excellent, just forward me details of the House numbers who you will cover (just give me an idea, say for example between houses 34 - 55), anyway, I'm getting Roy up to speed & we will be having a meeting in the near future to introduce Roy to the Coordinators & he will spell out his ideas for the next 12 months & listen to comments (like yours) about how we can support you better,

Hope this is helpful,
Nick

hi nick its nothing being taken personal whatsoever!
of course if this scheme can really get up and running in our town then my 100% support is there behind it, really my details can be supplied asap which im more than happy to do as we have disscused before, perhaps ron would like to contact me and you are more than welcome to pass on my name and number to him and when the nhw organisers contact me i will then revisit the residents again Thumb up!
