Good view and many things haven't changed. The long comment from an evacuee of the 1940's is really interesting.

I was at the Heritage Society talk last night when Glyn Bridges (who now lives in Trowbridge but was the headmaster of the original Westbury Leigh Junior School) showed photographs of Westbury Leigh and Westbury and pointed out how much is worth preserving and many of the unique buildings (and iron work) that are a real civic asset to the town.

When was Glyn Bridges the Head of Westbury Leigh?

He taught me when I was aged 8-9 and the Head's during my time at the school were Anne Bull then Don Hewitt. Once Don Hewitt left Mary Murray took over and is still the Head now.

I wonder whether Mr Bridges was the Head before Anne Bull (though I don't think so), or whether there was an interim where he took the role between Don Hewitt and Mary Murray?

Re. photos of Westbury Leigh, it has changed comparitively little in appearance since photos I've seen in various books/online however there is now only a takeaway as a 'shop' compared to the stores of the past!

Thanks Andy, I thought that was what he said last night. Did I mishear ? I am deaf in one ear. He certainly knew his stuff. He thought we should have tried to have the old school listed and perhaps converted to housing rather than loose it altogether.

Their web site
http://www.westburyleigh.wilts.sch.uk/noaccess.asp
doesn't give a history.

As I only lives 5 mins walk from the takeaway, can I just say its rather good but you're right since the PO went there is no general store left nearer than the Tesco Express. I like Westbury Leigh though - nice people and a friendly atmosphere.

I and a number of my school friends from my year and several year groups either side of me agree completely about how the building should have been saved and converted!
