Thanks Russell about the advise as to which post I should or should not respond to. Frankly that is my choice and has nothing to do with you.

Where exactly did I state that you insinuated RTT could not express his views?

Now I have said my piece, BACK ON TOPIC PLEASE. Wink

You are talking about unscrupulous illegal operations and suggesting that the new contractor will run an illegal operation right under the noses of Local Government senior officers.

I am talking about a highly-respectable contractor which complies with legislation and works for Local Government.

<Personal attack on me for daring to disagree with Russell snipped>

If the operation is legal and above board then terrific. All well and good.

It is *YOU* who brought Polish immigrants into the matter also stating that they would not be keeping the job but taking the money and running off back to Poland.

If the new contractors workforce is indeed not going to stay we will be back to square one.

I don't think for one minute that WWDC would appoint a contractor that would run an illegal operation. (ie. employing East Europeans at less than the minimum wage). But I would have thought they would know (ask even) the real reasons for appointing a contractor at a cheaper rate.

I think you will find that they will appoint the same workforce anyway.

By the way, i left a black bag full of rubbish next to my overflowing grey bin today and they picked it up as well. Now I've got room for all the stuff I collected and eagerly await the next collection in a fortnight Thumb up!

Lets hope we don't find out the hard way why their bid was the cheapest. Wink

There were about 6 bids and one was the clear best (cheapest)

LOL - Says it all!

It is my experience in life that you get what you pay for and "cheapest" hardly ever equates to "the best".

Collections will probably be down to once every 3 weeks....

The relevant officers at WWDC conducted a very thorough beauty parade of the bidders, looking at every relevant detail before making recommendations about the best bid.

They didn't do it thoroughly enough then.

so I doubt if you know anything worthwhile about the relevance of why some contractors bid lower than others or why some contractors bid higher thinking that others will not.
Russell

I hope to goodness Russell that a New Years Resolution for you would be to be less condascending within the Forum.  You seem to think that no one knows anything worthwhile unless it is on the same level as you. Dis mount will you?

I doubt if you have any real relevant experience at all of a formal tendering process for a multi-million £ contract with a detailed specification of works,

Here we go again. You can't answer so resort to personal abuse and changing the subject as usual.

I DO know - as I have stated - that you don't get anything for nothing, especially where councils are concerned. If you want to see the results of forever cost cutting and trying to do things on the cheap just look at the state of the NHS or the armed services where they can no longer afford to kit their employees out properly.

A much better idea for saving money would be to open tenders for politicians jobs. Few are worth anything like the fee they pay themselves and their "services" certainly couldn't get any worse. Maybe the Poles would do a better job for £1 an hour and appreciate the work instead of abusing the position?

Having experienced the problems of the stike, i'm sure the council will have been much more astute with their contracting strategy this time round, to achieve best value for the taxpayer

As Russell said earlier, this is a major expenditure, and im confident that sufficient safeguards will be in place to protect our services. After all, thats what we pay them(WWDC) to do for us.

IMO RTT, give the new contractor a chance, and judge them on the service when they start.

You seem to paint a bleak picture, without knowing any of the facts about the bidding process, or any details about the cheaper bid, and in particular, why you believe the cheaper bid is inferior. If you have detailed information that backs your claim that less means less, please could you share it with us? Im sure we would be all interested in the facts.

Otherwise RTT, have a little faith in our council.  Wink

This is said with no explanation or foundation at all.
Whinge on and speculate about impending doom to your hearts content ... I'm bored with this nonsense ...   Lips Sealed Smiley

You stated yourself that the relevant officers at WWDC carried out a thorough beauty parade of the bidders looking at every detail checking managemant controls etc before making a recommendation.
It all seems to be running very smoothly yes?...............................not.

In this instance I find myself agreeing with CC's post Russell about your condescending nature toward other forum members.
You don't know either RTT, myself or many others on here from Adam or seem to know our work history or background yet make constant assertions that we know less than you on various matters discussed. We don't see fit to poo poo your every view when we can clearly see you have no idea what you're waffling on about. Cool is cool. You can't just be in the "in crowd. You had to be there man"

You're also really easy to wind up. Grin

Bazza.
I hope you or anyone else doesn't find my last post to contain any personal insult toward anybody.
It certainly wasn't intended to. Just some light banter near to NYE. That's all.  Thumb up!

Unfortunately, you are responding to a wind up based on unfounded claims. No-one has been personally abusive to anyone ... though CC gets close to the mark with her unnecessary personal comment about me.

Russell calm down, no one is "abusing" you. They are disagreeing with some of your views which in a democracy they are fully entitled to do.

I simply respond to what people post. I have no assertions about anyone. I doubted whether RTT knows much about the formal tendering process. I am open to being told that I am wrong... but RTTs response was more tripe with another swipe.

Aw ... spoilsport.  But, some people do try to pick me up all the time. I assume that you are sensible enough to disagree with me when you actually do think differently - rather than for the sake of it.

Kiss Kiss Kiss Kiss Kiss Kiss Kiss Kiss Kiss

Why, thank you Russell.
I'd like to think so too.
