A new game cum history thread:  What used to be there.........

I'll kick off with a few examples.

Mr Biggs shop in Leigh Road is now houses

The chip shop opposite Kevins Menswear used to be Junior Fayre (a toy shop).

Deans in Maristow Street used to be Cottage Teas!

The building housing the Garden House Hotel used to be the Post Office.

Get the idea?!

It's ok to repeat the same building/feature as long as you're not repeating the same use - so saying "Beautopia used to be a bike shop" and then "The bike shop used to be the organ shop" is ok.

Ok, there was a Hairdressers along Warminster Rd somewhere, I remember getting taken in as a kid with hair down to my bottom and getting them to chop the lot to a cropped spikey look... the Hairdresser kept asking me If I was sure!!  Those were the days, used to put so much hairspray on my hair was like rock.

The shop on the corner, opposite the Market Plc which sold Art until recently used to be the Co OP.. My mum and her sisters worked in there.

that was where  allen n harris estate agents is situated i think cc.... it was caleld wendys if im right in my thinking..now moved to half way down haynes road

opposite the oval motor company was a small cake shop  raines i think it was.... its now a house...
used to sell lovely cakes and fresh yeast... always full of school kids at lunchtimes and breaks if t hey could sneak out

Not sure if it was Wendys. Would not remember the name, but the woman in there was lovely. Lovely curly hair.

Ah yes, remember Perrys? The Newsagents, that is where we used to sneak off to at Lunchtimes to get our ten Lambert and Butlers    And some sweets of course by the jar.

down where there is small car sales by the co op there used to be a small garage which had a house and worshop opposite side of the road....  it was called greens garage and mr  green was lovely and so was his mum... she used to come out of the hut she sat in to take payments for the petrol aqnd give us sweeties....FREE !!  not many do that now

you remember the sweet shop further along the road.... its now nocked down to make way for a grassed bit and bench on the corner of warminster road... a mrs palmer used to run it.... all sweets in jars and hundreds of them..... she was realted to my best mate soo we used to go i there a lot


also the candy box in maristow street....its now the westbury emproium
that was a lovely shop .......

Where One Stop is now it used to be Cripps Newsagents where I worked as a Saturday girl.  Used to have great times working there!!    Opened my eyes up to the world I can tell you, surrounded by Pubs and people coming in drunk looking at the top shelf.  I was quite meek and mild until then.   

So, I am ashamed to say I do not know where Cripps shop was in Warminster Rd years ago.........as in the Father....   ashamed because I am very good friends with the son.
