What did Clements shoe repair shop used to be ? I've got a Delicatessen in my mind but I could be way off !

Had to wait a while, until i spoke to my aunt and uncle, but Clements used to be the Co-op butcher ( Haynes Road ).

The wool shop, which was in the Warminster Road, I believe was rented out to whoever ran it by the owners of the adjoining house. When the wool shop closed,  the owners of the shop who also owned the house adjoining it (which they had run as an off-licence alongside the wool shop) gave up the business, they made alterations to their two properties so that it formed one house. This made their home become a l large 5-bedroomed house with large garden and remains that way to this day. Prior to all the above, it was a pub, "The Old Bell Inn" but that was long before any of us can remember I would guess.

I understand that the garden originally stretched across the Warminster Road Car Park and further still and that a large part of it was an orchard of pear trees but I doubt anyone can remember that either. Ask your Grans if they remember.

Maybe that is where the name Orchard Road came from then - would make sense.

There was a lovely walnut tree and a chestnut tree where Orchard Road used to be, the nuts were very nice indeed!
I thought the name of the pub was something on the lines of The Plough---I'll ask my mum.
Next to where the cinema was there was also a small brewery, and I can remember there was a long brick tunnel that went back under the hill with spring water running out of it, we tried as kids to investigate it one but after what seemed miles to us nerves got the better of us and we got out of there quick!!!

Sounds like the town was full of pear trees. When the orchard which extended across the Warminster Road Car Park became extinct, one pear tree was left in one garden and I believe two in the adjoining garden. Every year there is a huge crop of pears but they are absolutely horrible to eat. They must have been used for processing 'something' but don't know what it would be.

This is about a building in Warminster, not Westbury.

I was delivering along Boreham Road this morning and noticed an old shop building, quite clearly not in use any longer, called 'The Rip Off Shop'. Did anyone used to use it?

Who would use a shop called that?

There are a lot of shops about that should be called that!
