Ah yes, remember Perrys? The Newsagents, that is where we used to sneak off to at Lunchtimes to get our ten Lambert and Butlers  Grin  And some sweets of course by the jar.

Perrys was ace!  Then it was empty for a bit before becoming that print shop, and now I notice it's a letting agency - all opposite the petrol station in Warminster Road.

Who remembers the gas station where Kingfisher Drive is now?  Apparently the big gas container was just left in the ground when they built the houses on top!!!

Maybe I am getting confused. Felt sure that my mates Dad used to have a shop up there in days of old. Will ask him when I see him next.

What was the shop we spoke about before in Maristow St where I used to buy my cheesy pop band badges?? Embarrassed Huh  Cannot remember the name..........

No 13 Maristow St was my home until I was one.  Grin

Nope.  Do not think so.

Just text my mate now to try and jog my memory, we used to go in there all the time looking at the Bros badges. Such classy chicks we were.  Used to buy those Irish Claddagh rings too, for about 99p.
Only the best.  Grin

The Casket!  My sister got her ears pierced in there.  It wasn't quite in Maristow Street though, it was at the bottom of Edward Street - in one on the now empty units next to Saffron.

I remember the lane too, used to use it to get to school!!!

My dear departed Nan used to work in that mill - it was a glove factory - and she always said it was haunted. My Nan was never into believing in ghosts, but she would swear the old mill building was haunted.   My Nan lived in Eden Vale just opposite the end of the lane too, and used to tell me stories that the haunting persisted inside the new houses that were built on top of the site where the mill stood.

But originally the building that is now the White Rabbit was the servant quarters for Westbury House - the building now containing the town library - when it was still a residential house.

If you get one of those 'Westbury In old Photos' books you can see how many shops Westbury Leigh used to have!

I can recall the Post Office that used to be opposite Leigh Close, another sweet shop that was next to the takeaway that's had several reincarnations (latterly Mings Shocked and Wok & Roll), a smaller shop on the right hand side down past where the traffic lights are and vlrtually opposite the Baptist Church.

Now there are no shops and those previously mentioned (apart from the takeaway) are now just houses.

Of course there were a number of pubs too, now just The Hollies remains.

Happy :-) !

2 quotes by me....
- Nature is wonderful, you just need the time to stop, look and listen.
- Look up, you never know what you may see.

Yep just remembered it before seeing your post.  This is like brain train for me cause my memory is hopeless.

My Nan worked in the Glove factory too.

And as for the hauntings, well my Dad worked in the Mill many years later (cannot remember why) and swore blind that it was haunted. Lots of strange noises from upstairs, bangs and bumps and things being moved.

My Grandad used to frequent the Phipps Arms.  In fact we all did as a family growing up.
